SSX XBOX 360

SSX XBOX 360

SSX. EA Sports. Release: 2012. Rated: E.

Summary and Evaluation

The theme in this game is “Go big or go home” and that’s the feeling you get when playing this game.  It’s great for both sports fans and non-sports fans alike.  You can choose from a series of characters as well as tracks.  You travel from Alaska to Siberia, the Alps and six other locations.  As a player you need to complete tricks to fill your trick meter and maximize your boost.  Fans of the earlier versions will enjoy this new release with it’s addicting music, some new characters and exhilarating vistas.  I personally am not a sports fan and do not enjoy other sports video games but SSX is the exception to that rule and is one of my favorite games.

Why I Included This Game

This is a great game that will appeal to a wide audience of both boys and girls.  It has some amazing graphics and the content is clean and appropriate for all ages.

Batman: Arkham City

Batman: Arkham City

Batman: Arkham City for PC. Warner Bros. Interactive. 2011. Rated: T

Summary and Evaluation

In this game North Gotham is sealed-off as a prison for the city’s worst criminals. Batman is back as the caped crusader protecting the innocence against the villains preying upon the citizens of Gotham.  In this game Batman must enter North Gotham and is forced into helping the dying Joker find a cure for him.

The game is full of action and adventure as the player has to battle classic enemies like the Penguin and Mr. Freeze.  Like in the comics you are armed with a wealth of gadgets such as batarangs.

This game is rated T for teens as there is violence as expected from this type of games but if placing this on a library computer it should be limited to computers designed for teens and not younger children.

Why I included this game

Batman is a classic comic book character who has also been popular in video games.  The latest movie has also recently opened in theaters which could increase interest among teens in this game.

New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii

New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Nintendo Wii. 2009 Rated E

Summary and Evaluation

New Super Mario Bros. Wii continues the Super Mario saga as Mario must fight his way past Bowser’s minions to rescue the Princess.  Familiar power ups like the Ice Flower, Fire Flower the the Starman aids Mario by endowing him with special abilities.  There are nine worlds and 88 levels to conquer before rescuing the princess.

Fans of Super Mario of all ages will enjoy this game and as of March 2012 is the best selling game for the Wii.  The Wii format has added fun new options like spinning the Wii remote to spin in mid-air.

Why I included this game

Super Mario Bros. is a classic game that many generations are familiar with.  The content is acceptable for all age groups unlike some of the more violent games such as Call of Duty and yet is still enjoyed by teens.  I felt this would be one of the less controversial games to have available in a library.
